Garden Makeover in Allington

Allington rear garden beforeThe bottom of this back garden in Allington had been cleared of unwanted and overgrown trees and shrubs.

The customer was then unsure what to do with what remained.

Allington garden beforeUnderneath this uninviting and uneven wasteland were, among other things; assorted hardcore, tree roots, a large tree stump and the remains of the concrete floor of an old greenhouse.

The answer was to cover it up with something prettier and work with the levels rather than against them.

Allington rear garden with sleepers and slateWe used sleepers to create a rectangular seating area to the left and a two-tiered corner section. We used two aggregates - Cotswold buff stones and plum slate to further contrast the different areas.

The resulting space is versatile enough for various kinds of seating, planted pots or ornaments and is very low maintenance.

We also did some work on the top part of the garden where side borders had been cleared of weeds and shrubs, leaving the edges indistinct. We used Everedge powder-coated edging to create flowing border shapes and covered the earth with weed supressing membrane and chestnut chippings - a low cost alternative to ornamental bark. This gives the customer the option of later planting through the membrane whilst in the meantime being low maintenance and hassle-free.
